TACTL-Sponsored Sessions at the 2007 Annual Conference in Chicago

The annual meeting was held in Chicago April 9-13, 2007. It was a busy and successful year. We had one of the larger blocks of sessions of any SIG at AERA. We had 9 traditional paper presentations (4 papers in each), 2 symposia, and 14 roundtables. The TCATL business meeting had over 150 people in attendance. Chris Dede, Timothy E. Wirth Professor in Learning Technologies at Harvard University was the guest speaker at the TACTL SIG business meeting held on Monday of the conference (photo right).

Chris Dede, Timothy E. Wirth Professor in Learning Technologies at Harvard University was the guest speaker at the TACTL SIG business meeting held on Monday of the conference. Dr. Dede is Principal Investigator for the River City Multi-user Virtual Environment project, and he has done extensive research on the use of information technology to distribute and orchestrate learning across space, time, and multiple interactive media. His talk was entitiled, Reinventing the Role of Information and Communications Technologies in Education.

Presentation Paper

The WINNER of the TACTL 2007 SIG AWARD is

Finding the Individual in Collaborative Online Learning Environments by Wendy Freeman and Clare Brett from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto was the first recipient of the TACTL SIG AWARD. This paper explores issues that have been underexplored in the research literature on educational technology, namely, identity construction in social environments using Web log technology. In 2nd place was the Impact of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on Teachers' Beliefs Regarding Technology Use by Sung Hee Park and Peggy Ertmer. Thanks to the judges Christine Greenhow (chair), Greg Jones, John Rice, Victoria Giordano, and Dale Niederhauser for their work. The award was presented during the TACTL business meeting during AERA.
